A police officer with Scotland Yard's sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command has been charged with child sex offences.
Detective Constable Chris Maitland will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with 14 offences.
The 40-year-old has been charged with two counts of sexual touching of a girl aged under 13, and five counts of taking an indecent image of a child.
The officer, who has been suspended from duty, also faces seven counts of making an indecent image of a child.
Maitland was arrested in November on suspicion of possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
He was taken into custody and subsequently bailed pending further inquiries.
Police arrested Maitland again on Tuesday on suspicion of sexual touching, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
