A WOMAN whose mother and sister were shot dead by Tilford dog breeder John Lowe has branded Surrey Police “murderers” after an independent investigation into the force’s conduct was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service. The referral by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) could result in two Surrey Police firearms licencing officers facing criminal action over a decision to return shotguns to Lowe just half a year before he murdered his partner Christine Lee and her daughter Lucy Lee.

A West Yorkshire police constable had been sacked by the force after giving his boss an inaccurate account of how a suspect managed to escape from his custody. The officer, who has not been named by the force, appeared before a public misconduct hearing after being accused of discreditable conduct. His was one of three such hearings so far this year for Yorkshire’s biggest police force.

Policeman jailed misconduct

A former Merseyside police officer, who pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office, has been jailed for four years. Liverpool Crown Court heard that an investigation carried out by Merseyside Police and managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission found that Michael McMillan made persistent contact with victims of crime, for his own sexual purposes, during his time as a Detective Constable with the Family Crime Investigation Unit.
